When one is falling in love –
And that love is true –
Then suddenly –
The world population –
Becomes only two

Notes to this poem…
I love this little poem because I feel it is so true, even though I’ll admit that by my strictest definition of being in love, I’ve never been. The barrier was feeling the girl I felt in love with wasn’t quite feeling as strongly about me as I did about her, though mind you, I can feel very strongly about somebody! If you know me at all, though, you know I feel very strongly about a lot of things, whether topics I’m passionate about or activities in which I engage myself, never mind somebody I love! Yet, I don’t think my standards on the matters are so high it would be unfair to expect someone to feel so strongly about me. I’ve seen other people in love feel what I interpret to be that strong about each other. I just haven’t felt anyone has given me enough of a chance to feel that strongly about me, that’s all.
And yet, even in the partial, rather than absolute, true love I have experienced, I still feel this poem to be true. Don’t you?
The O-series of poems are one stanza poems composed before I got onto writing haiku and tanka, and short poetry while in action or traveling by select means like plane or ferry. These poems are 3-9 lines long with at least one rhyming couplet, and not of the short forms just mentioned. For the sake of elegance, I just called the collection One.
