One Stanza Poem O091

To truly know the meaning of hopelessness –
Put yourself in the roots of a tree –
It faces a slow death in pollution, insects and man –
And a quick death in fire, lightning and man –
It faces all those threats – and more – everyday –
All without any hope for escape
Because it cannot run away!
What a feeling of hopelessness that must be!
What a tragedy it is to be a tree!

Notes to this poem…

To be annotated by the end of 2008 at latest.

The O-series of poems are one stanza poems composed before I got onto writing haiku and tanka, and short poetry while in action or traveling by select means like plane or ferry. These poems are 3-9 lines long with at least one rhyming couplet, and not of the short forms just mentioned. For the sake of elegance, I just called the collection One.
