Skating Poem S010

Look one way and you’re
Skating around the Oval –
Look the other way
And suddenly – the world is
Turning around you instead

Notes to this poem…

If you’ve ever gone around a track in any way, or can imagine doing so, then you can understand this poem.

If you look to the inside of the track, you just see what’s in the middle as you go around it. You’re circling it.

If you look to the outside, especially a bit up to see more than just what’s immediately on the outside of the track, you could convince yourself the world is turning around you. It’s almost like being on a merry-go-round and thinking you were the one who was still. That’s not hard to do skating, moving the feet a little and gliding pretty easily, without having to bounce up and down. It’s just a perspective change, but what a difference it can make!

You know you’re in the zone when things like this come to you during exercise! 🙂

The S-series poems were composed while I was out skating on the Halifax Emera Skating Oval, to squeeze in writing time in a life that is always getting busier.
