At 8:14 this morning –
The harbour was still –
In a deep slumber

Notes to this poem…

I took an early ferry ride today, a Sunday morning, so the world seemed rather quiet as I made my way from my place to the ferry. On the ferry, I noticed the harbour was also relatively still, with very little wind and waves. With the darker winter mornings and cloud cover reducing sunlight further, it seemed to me the harbour had not yet awakened, either.

The long dash after still, is intentional, so the word functioned to describe how calm the harbour was, but also how it seemed to continue to be in a deep slumber like most people were early Sunday morning.

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
