Despite tonight’s cold –
I had company on the
Ferry upper deck

Notes to this poem…
It was -9C, -11C with windchill, tonight out on the harbour (15F, 12F). That’s not bitterly cold but I’ve been on the upper deck at night on more than one occasion with the temperature at about zero C (32F) or thereabouts, without any company on the upper deck. I had vowed I would always go on the upper deck when taking the ferry, no matter how cold, to be a bit closer to nature in composing these Big Life Ferry Poems that are mostly haiku and tanka format, both attached to nature.
So this was just an observation of a situation contrary to the norm I had been used to riding the ferry this winter.
The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
