Gradually, out
Of the fog appeared Dartmouth –
To Star Wars music

Notes to this poem…

This haiku could stand alone, but makes a little more sense following Big Lift Ferry Poem F45 immediately before it in sequence.

I was embarking on a ferry ride to Dartmouth in a sudden snowstorm that reduced visibility to a grey wall of snow and fog less than a mile away. Part way out, I chose to listen to music on my iPod to amp up the surreal feel of heading into a cloud of grey gas, as it were. I also knew Dartmouth would eventually come into view. As a result, I chose the original Star Wars trilogy opening theme, followed by the Imperial March, which were enough to last the main part of the trip until Dartmouth came into view.

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
