Notes to this poem…

This poem was some completely random thought that popped into my head seeing a section of the MacDonald Bridge displaced in the middle of the redecking project. The displaced section reminded me of the nursery rhyme song about London Bridge falling down. However, this was the MacDonald bridge, also known as the “old” bridge between the two suspension bridges separating Halifax and Dartmouth. With “old MacDonald” in my thought counterpoint to how this wasn’t London Bridge, my head just morphed the two nursery rhymes together and hey, it happened to fit the haiku form!

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
