Running Poem R005

Once – I used to run
Like there were no tomorrow –
Now – I tend to run
Like I will live forever –
And I might for doing so!

Notes to this poem…

Running about 2000 to 2200 miles a year at higher intensities is not good for you in the long run, pun intended and not, metaphorically and literally. Studies have shown running about 1-2 hours a week at an enjoyable pace is ideal if you run distance. I’m averaging this these days, mixed in with a variety of other physical activities, many of which require a lot more coordination.

Dropped 15 miles on an impromptu run today and was composing this during the last 3 miles when I was jogging it in after leg muscles were threatening to cramp. That’s because without a lot of training, I was ravaging the hills in the first 12 miles of my run. That’s what I get for being a cocky little bastard. 🙂

The R-series poems were composed while I was out running, in an effort to find time for writing in a life that is always getting busier.
