Notes to this poem…

The calm before the storm is an English expression for anticipation of chaos or something less than pleasant. Sitting in the beautiful sunshine on the ferry upper deck today, I realized that given many storms and calms await in some sort of endless cycle, in any period of calm, sooner or later, a storm will follow. It’s only a matter of when the next storm comes.

In that sense, I await my next storm, to see if it were the one I were expecting, another one, or just a shadow of the one I were anticipating.

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
