Big Lift Ferry Poem F075

This ferry’s going to sink
If even just one
More baby gets on!

Notes to this poem…

On this long weekend, the MacDonald bridge was actually closed despite a big racing event in downtown Halifax on both Saturday and Sunday, where parking is not great! The way they’ve adopted to changing circumstances very well, falling behind schedule and catching up in doing the bridge redecking, I figured they could have kept the bridge open this weekend. Not surprisingly, with the bridge closed, the ferries were packed! I would not be surprised if they had to cap riders on some rides when “everybody” was going home, though I don’t know for sure if they did have to.

What was clear was that the ferries were pretty crowded. I had never seen it so crowded before, though I don’t usually go at rush hour, either. It was crowded enough I felt what was expressed in the haiku to be true. It was also crowded enough the only poems I composed on the way to Dartmouth were about overcrowding. It was only slightly better on the way home at late supper time, after the Halifax based events were over and folks were out enjoying supper rather than going anywhere.

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
