Tanka T043

I hate when people
Limit what I could be to
Their intelligence –
Or their imagination –
Or – rather – a lack thereof

Notes to this poem…

Just be aware of that sometimes when people limit you to something, whether in them being surprised it was possible for you, or estimating your ceiling for you. Or worse, they can’t imagine someone doing a certain thing, or can’t understand something, so they don’t think you can, either. When that happens, I just ask people to expand their intelligence and/or imagination.

That’s as opposed to a surprise where they didn’t know something about you, which is fair.

The poems titled Tanka, followed by a number, are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
