Tanka T044

I do many things
Where I am frequently told
That I overthink –
When I should just shut it down –
And rely on my instincts

Notes to this poem…

It’s true. That’s what happens when you’re a pure analyst who not only analyzes everything, but also do it to prepare rather than just after the fact. My drawing instructor tells me that a lot, along with other drawing friends. I’ve also been told that in tennis, as well as swing dancing, among other things.

Even I’ve told myself that many times! I don’t know why I have a hard time listening, even to myself. In the times that I have, I have done quite well. But maybe that’s because I haven’t been reckless to listen to my instincts on everything, and just don’t recall the times when analyzing got me through better since that’s my nature.

The poems titled Tanka, followed by a number, are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
