Notes to this poem…
I will have a bus pass for at least the next three months, maybe four. Let’s say it were three. It’ll take at least 40 trips a month, of which I’ll guess 30 will be ferry. That’ll be 90 trips. The remaining of the year when this Big Lift project is supposed to go will be about another 30 trips so I’m guessing 120 trips. At the rate I’ve been going before this latest spike in output, even, I’m more than confident I can average over 1.67 poems a ferry ride so that’s where I’m getting that magic 200 number.
That’s a slightly intimidating target for me, still, considering I only have 95 poems to this point. However, I haven’t done this where I’ve had a bus pass to go over to Dartmouth to play tennis often, either. I suspect in any month with a bus pass, I will do more ferry trips than I have to this point since starting this collection! I just know I won’t be writing reams of poems each ride so I think I’m actually being conservative with that 200 target despite how intimidating it seems to me. That’s a lot of topics to write about! I can’t even fathom that many topics right now, though many will be variations of one, like the weather the day of the ride. Easy fit for haiku since it’s supposed to be about nature.
The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
