Love has a price –
Most people pay that fair price –
But some get a deal –
There are those who over pay –
And those who take it away

Notes to this poem…
Contemplating how to explain Tanka 63, I articulated that love has a price. It does. But like anything you shop for, not everybody pays that price, and the distribution of what they “pay” for love is just like the distribution of what people pay in shopping relative to a price of something. The exact distribution in terms of proportion who pay what is not likely the same, but the categories of that distribution is.
The poems titled Tanka, followed by a number, are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
