Notes to this poem…

In doing line drawings, I have to reduce whatever it is I am drawing to a series of lines, with some shading allowed. The trick to doing it well is actually to be able to identify what doesn’t need to be represented with my lines, rather than what needs to be represented. The brain is great at filling in information, rather than having to clutter one’s drawings with all kinds of lines representing everything seen that makes it very messy looking, and like a fifth rate photograph.

The easiest way to help myself envision for line drawings is to actually just try to see the world as a line drawing, wherever I am, whenever I choose engage in the mental exercise.

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
