Big Lift Ferry Poem F150

Reaching for the sky –
To realign a few stars –
More in my favour

Notes to this poem…

From the idiom of one’s stars being aligned, to mean lucky, I got the idea for this poem. I came home late enough tonight that the stars were out in the sky. In an unlucky part of life right now where my stars all seemed unaligned, I went through the physical motion of reaching up for the stars, as if to pinch them, and move them into spots of symbols, whether straight lines or shapes like a star and a heart. It was as if I could move the stars to align them in a way that I could claim my stars were aligned as per the idiom.

What a beautiful thought and exercise that was!

The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
