Worse than people who
Build empires with staff are
Those who build empires –
To look the part and be paid –
But without having to rule

Notes to this poem…
“Building empires” is a term a former boss taught me about how some people tried to get as many staff as they could under them for the sake of a bigger pay cheque, in places where more salary is given for more people to supervise. With these people, though, there’s usually an ego factor that comes with bossing around lots of people under them as well.
However, recently, I found a few people who were building empires solely for the look and pay cheque. They didn’t give a damn about actually trying to manage people and got a few underlings to manage everybody else. They even got those underlings more people to manage just for the sake of increasing their empires through the disguise increasing the underlings’ mini-empires! In one case, the underling neither needed, nor was qualified, to manage anybody under them!
That’s worse to me than just greed for power and money. That’s laziness on top of it!
The poems titled Tanka, followed by a number, are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
