A duck flew across
The whole harbour just a foot
Above the rough waves –
A smooth and steady spark on
An invisible lit fuse

Notes to this poem…
I had never seen a duck fly so far doing one of these sweeps just above the water surface. This one went all the way across the harbour. Furthermore, it was steady in pace but with irregularly flapping wings looking different to me as it went past and my angle of seeing it changed. It all resembled a little randomness of a burning spark on a fuse.
The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
