Diamonds that used to
Sparkle in her eyes are now
But carbonic dust –
They went from diamonds to dust
In a blink of a stray wink

Notes to this poem…
If you know diamonds and graphite to be the same material of pure carbon, then this poem would make more sense. Same material, different forms. Love and heartbreak, metaphorically, but even literally because the sparkles are like little bits of white whereas dust is little bits of grey. The sparkles lost their shine to me with a wink given to someone else.
The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
