Running Poem R039

Ran  like a machine –
Of the ticking kind –
Even to the second

Notes to this poem…

A few days after having done my first running race in almost 4 years, I was invited to a speed workout by an old friend, Bob, with the club he belonged to that also hosted the VanRace. Knowing the importance of recovery, I told myself I was just going to keep one steady pace no matter who ran what. That was because some would have known me from my recent bus racing exploits that made the national news, so some might have been gunning to race me. I just had to make sure I wouldn’t get caught up in any of it.

They had 3 different interval lengths, with slightly different grades, during this workout. From what they told me were the distances, with minor efforts to adjust for distance and grade, my calculated pace was right to the second per mile! I was extremely pleased with that. 🙂

The R-series poems were composed while I was out running, in an effort to find time for writing in a life that is always getting busier.
