Are there more people –
Prettier on the outside –
Than on the inside?

Notes to this poem…
I was struggling in the Coho Salmon Run in 2016 when out of the blue, this thought popped into my head.
In English, we talk about people who are pretty on the outside, as in physical looks, and those pretty (or beautiful) on the inside, as in personality or heart/soul metaphors.
Then we talk about people who are prettier on the outside or inside, as in beautiful but wicked, or not the greatest looking but with a wonderful personality.
Seems my brain jumped one beyond that and thought, let’s say everybody was deemed one or the other, which group would have more people in it?
That’s why I love running. My mind can just go places like that on a whim! Or if I need to push it to there to find answers in life. In this case, it might be a question I need to do another run to get a satisfactory answer because I’m not sure I could thinking about it sitting still somewhere. 🙂
The R-series poems were composed while I was out running, in an effort to find time for writing in a life that is always getting busier.
