Notes to this poem…
My Parents, Aunt and I were visiting a long time family friend living in Vancouver when she showed us her little lovebird pet that seemed slightly senile. The friend blamed it on old age, bragging the thing had been with her for 18 years! Immediately, my feelings gushed for the bird for reasons in this tanka.
The T-series poems are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
