The mangåta followed me –
The whole run to tempt
Me from this sad world

Notes to this poem…
Super moon night and I planned a run to observe the biggest one in about 70 years! It wasn’t super big here in Halifax, but it was beautiful to see lots of people out waiting for it, and it was beautiful as moon rises always are.
Here’s what you need to know about mangåta, the Swedish word for road to the moon, before I go on.
My run was mostly along the Halifax waterfront, then into a park by the ocean with dockyards in between. As a result of being by the water all that time, the mangåta basically followed me along any time I was by the water, which was a lot, just by the rules of physics.
Living in the world I do now after that messed up US election, it felt very real to have that road to the moon there to just then step on to and run away from this world and everything messed up with it.
I felt this way. Yet, I’m not even American. I really feel bad for them.
The R-series poems were composed while I was out running, in an effort to find time for writing in a life that is always getting busier.
