Last planned ferry ride
Before bridge redecking is

But I am still 38

Notes to this poem…
This was written on my trip home from a meeting in Dartmouth that was the last trip I had planned to Dartmouth for this calendar year. It would also be the last trip before the MacDonald Bridge redecking was to be done at the end of the calendar year. The significance of that for my poetry is that the ferry rides I take due to those closures are when I write these Big Lift collection poems.
As of now, I am 38 poems short of my recently updated target of 400 from 365. I did that, in part, because I know I’ll venture over to Dartmouth again during times when the bridge will be closed and I’ll have to take the ferry. However, it will be infrequent, and only the next six weeks or so will tell whether I’ll have had enough trips remaining, and be able to write short poems efficiently enough, to hit that target.
Even if the redecking falls behind schedule and extends into 2017, though, I also have no further trips to Dartmouth planned, so we’ll see.
The F-series poems are part of a collection composed on my ferry rides across Halifax Harbour when the buses aren’t crossing the MacDonald bridge due to the Big Lift bridge redecking. This should keep happening until at least December 2016.
