Walking with the waves –
At their speed on a rooftop –
Until out of space

Notes to this poem…
The 200th haiku in this collection of haiku composed while I’m not engaged in a physical activity like running, though I am walking in this one.
I am atop the Seaport Farmers’ market in Halifax here. It is located right by the ocean, on a big wharf into the water so the waves hit the side of building foundation. I came out before lunch at a work event and saw the wind blowing the waves slowly in the direction of the walkway. The waves were moving slowly enough I realized I could walk at their speed for an interesting experience. That’s what I did, but ultimately ran out of space on the rooftop in about 20 metres. Still, it was enough for a nice experience that I repeated it several times and composed this haiku while doing so to capture the moment and experience.
The H-series poems comprise of haiku composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Haiku collection.
