Running Poem R071

Thrilled I could still hit –
200 beats per minute –
For running heart rate

Notes to this poem…

I got a new original model Apple Watch for a gift just the other day. To my delight, it had a wrist heart rate monitor on it. I know the technology isn’t the best at extreme ends of the heart rate range, meaning it’s off, though I’m not sure if it under or over estimates. But I’m going to ignore it here to “keep it simple”.

At one speed burst interval, I was able to hit 201 beats per minute (bpm) for a heart rate. The exact number didn’t matter to me. I was curious to see if I could still hit 200, having once maxxed out a Polar body strap heart rate monitor at 226 bpm during a hill workout on a hot day in Vancouver while I lived there in 2000.

Sure enough, I did! 🙂

The R-series poems were composed while I was out running, in an effort to find time for writing in a life that is always getting busier.
