If you’ve a chip
On your shoulders –
Get another –
For the other

Notes to this poem…

A poetic, and better, rewording, of a life philosophy quote I have about not living life with a chip on your shoulder, but living with one on both. The philosophy is to stay balanced, as in calm and not tilt your life for the sake of this grudge you have. It’s also about dispersing some of those emotions in having two chips, and a distraction in not only going to find another chip, but also to carry both, so as to not get too bogged down with it. You’ll also have to balance the two chips that you can’t get overly invested in one, which, in terms of holding a grudge, is just generally bad for me.

Mind you, there are few things that motivate me more than a chip on my shoulder, but it becomes a bad thing if I sort of ruin my life just for the sake of proving someone wrong. If I’m patient, I usually get the chance soon enough, and in a big enough way, that trying to do something immediately isn’t good. That’s where finding that chip for the other shoulder helps. 🙂

The S-series poems were composed while I was out skating on the Halifax Emera Skating Oval, to squeeze in writing time in a life that is always getting busier.
