Pi Day
Without Stephen Hawking –
Is dismal –
Like pi
Without the decimals –
Or pie –
Without the filling

Notes to this poem…
Stephen Hawking passed away in the early hours of Pi Day, 2018. I don’t know if that’s appropriately symbolic or not but it’s a pretty symbolic day if there were one for the man to die on. Not to mention Albert Einstein’s birthday.
Not many celebrity deaths move me much but this one definitely did. He was a pillar among my celebrities, from whom I always wanted to hear and know more. I can’t say that for most people in my life, to be honest. Now, though, this will be no more. 😦
Well, at least Dr Hawking is free of his earthly limitations and free to roam the stars. I just hope he’ll somehow find a way to send back some answers he will find to be true in his travels.
Btw, almost 20 years ago, in April 1998, I wrote a clerihew about Stephen Hawking. It’s never sounded so true.
