Tanka T153

Anchors on ships are
Small compared to what they hold
Like anchors in life –
Be careful where you drop them –
And what you choose to be them

Notes to this poem…

Some anchors we have in life keep us grounded for good. Others, not so much. No matter what they are, from a loved one to some mind set or material thing, they are small compared to the impact they have on our lives if they are indeed “anchors” in our lives. This is not to belittle people’s loved ones, but separate the physical of a person among many, from the impact and relationships that are the ships they hold in place, using the analogy.

The problem most people have with life anchors is that there are some they don’t choose very well, or at least don’t do a good job of freeing themselves from them, if they even recognize these anchors to be such in their lives!

The T-series poems are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
