Harbourwalk Poem W041

Got the Harbourwalk
To myself today –
Among a thousand others

Notes to this poem…

I can shut out the world that well when I’m in my own world. Walking through throngs of people on this walk, I might as well have walked among ghosts or projections of people on a screen around me or something, because I hardly noticed them. Look at the poems written just before and after this, with the same date. There are hardly any observations of anything actually on the Harbourwalk.

However, I should clarify that with me being in the “zone” like that, it’s not loneliness. I do feel disconnected to all the people, but I wasn’t lonely. There’s a clear, albeit fine, difference.

The W-series poems comprise mostly of haiku or tanka composed during walks I took on the portion of Halifax’s waterfront known as the Harbourwalk, in 2018, when the Seabridge was in place.
