Harbourwalk Poem W298

Public piano –
Broken means dream of playing
Moonlight Sonata –
Beneath a full moon outdoors –
Will have to wait one more year

Notes to this poem…

It’s a quirky dream of mine, both, dream in sleep and dream in aspiration, to play the Moonlight Sonata (first movement only), outdoor beneath a full moon. The public pianos allow that, if only they keep it functional long enough to get through a moon cycle so I can play it one night. It’s frustrating to see someone donate something like a piano, someone paint it all up, move it into a location, and then just leave it to the elements and it’s mostly useless within a few weeks with keys stuck, make no sound, or, at best, be out of tune!

The W-series poems comprise mostly of haiku or tanka composed during walks I took on the portion of Halifax’s waterfront known as the Harbourwalk, during the warmer months of 2018 & 2019, when the Seabridge was in place.
