Notes to this poem…

Encore career is what you want to do after you retire from the career you had most of your life, or your last one, where you have more freedom to do what you want that is more meaningful to you than jobs for the sake of salary or some other need.

Encore life is my term for the same thing for a life with or without an encore career. It’s not too early for me to think of this because I will be able to retire fairly early compared to most others.

As for travel, it’s being far away from home, in a foreign place, that opens the mind to new possibilities rather than thinking about it in the same place into which I have perhaps gotten in a rut for thinking mode, as creative as I may still be within that rut. It’s a well known psychological phenomena to get to new places if you want to think differently, whether for problems, ideas, or arguments you can’t get past in relationships.

The W-series poems comprise mostly of haiku or tanka composed during walks I took on the portion of Halifax’s waterfront known as the Harbourwalk, during the warmer months of 2018 & 2019, when the Seabridge was in place.
