Harbourwalk Poem W384

In living our lives –
Aren’t we just fulfilling
Chain reactions of –
Subatomic particles
As per scientific laws?

Notes to this poem…

That’s a very depressing way of looking at life and destiny, but there’s lots of truth in it. Everything in the universe is made of these subatomic particles. Some big chain reaction was set off long ago and is still going in most of the universe where we don’t associate sentience we have to determine our own actions. But what makes someone think our sentience is some magical force separate from all this chain reaction going on around us? Some of these chain reactions set off other ones that disrupt the history of chain reactions leading up to them. Why is our actions to change something some magical force that is perceived to be external to all this, disrupting it in unnatural ways, when it might have just been the chain reactions setting up some less than likely scenario that, under scientific laws, just alters a pattern leading up to the moment?

Begs the eternal questions of our human ego of are we really special?

The W-series poems comprise mostly of haiku or tanka composed during walks I took on the portion of Halifax’s waterfront known as the Harbourwalk, during the warmer months of 2018 & 2019, when the Seabridge was in place.
