Tanka T017

I plan to keep some
Of my imperfections that can
Be fixed easily –
For when Life needs me to show
More of my humanity

Notes to this poem…

Someone told me I should fix something about myself today, which is all good and fine. I actually like listening to criticisms of myself because it might be things I could use and not have seen from my bias perspective of myself, and I’m always looking to make myself better. I also like it because I judge it myself to make the final decision rather than acting on everything everybody says I should do to improve myself. 🙂

Every now and then, somebody will tell me to fix something about myself that I could see their point, but will refuse. One of those instances happened today. They had a good point, but I’m going to keep myself just the way I am with respect to said point. That’s because I believe more good would ultimately come of me being this way than changing myself. It’s a less probable, what I believe in, but for the much greater potential reward, I’ll take the risk and keep my “flaw”. I use quotes with “flaw” because I don’t see it as a “flaw” the way they did. Taking calculated risks for what one seeks is not a “flaw”, as far as I’m concerned. To be sarcastically polite, though, I told them I would keep the imperfection so as to retain more humanity when life requires me to show some humanity, whether that is in my art work, compassion or whatever. 😉

The poems titled Tanka, followed by a number, are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
