‘Tis cool to be brown
In the western world –
But just for days at a time

Notes to this poem…
People not of white skin face a lot of discrimination in the western world. Yet, have you ever notice the irony of how much tanning to become brown is prized among those in the western world? So what is it with this desire to become brown for a few days at a time while being racist against people who are brown all of the time? Might it be from jealousy? C’mon man!
The W-series poems comprise mostly of haiku or tanka composed during walks I took on the portion of Halifax’s waterfront known as the Harbourwalk, during the warmer months of 2018 & 2019, when the Seabridge was in place.
