Peyton was a name I liked –
‘Til I realized –
It rhymed with Satan

Notes to this poem…

My favourite quarterback since the late 1990s, and one of my favourite athletes of all time, is Peyton Manning. I thought the name Peyton to be nice ever since I first heard it, though it’s not like I was crazy about it. It was certainly nice to have a favourite athlete to whom you can refer on a first name only basis and people would know, in part due to a less than common name, unlike Michael. However, recently, in thinking about possibly writing poetry about Peyton, I searched for rhymes and, of course, went through Satan in substituting various first consonants to the name Peyton.

Well, that changed things a little bit on how I felt about the name, lol.

All these 18 years and I never even thought about it or realized it, to be honest, even if it were rather obvious. While I’m not disliking the name now, I’m kind of indifferent now for using it for anything, though I never considered it for my children.

All in all, I guess I should just be glad I didn’t realize what the name Peyton rhymed with 18 years ago to have let me enjoy it all these years. 🙂

The H-series poems comprise of haiku composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Haiku collection.
