Tanka T100

Love variants of
Names that swap the letter “i” –
With the letter “y” –
But I have no idea why
They’re attractive to my eye

Notes to this poem…

The big 100th tanka! Well, not really. It’s the 100th one not counting those written during other activities like ferry rides, skating, running or otherwise. I’m at 159 counting those tankas.

“Eye” here should be singular as I’m talking about perspective and opinion, like the “eye of the beholder”, rather than the literal eyes.

It’s almost universal, my liking for “y” in names over “i”, but it’s especially more for female names, and not for “ie” like turning Allie into Ally. It’s a quirk I don’t care to explore and understand, but just accept it as something magical that works for me.

So like Elyse instead of Elise, or even rare and strange looking variants like Marya instead of Maria.

The T-series poems are tanka composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Tanka collection.
