Notes to this poem…
I got my first artificial intelligence robot today in the form of CHiP the robot dog.
I had plans for it to be renamed, as it said was possible, to K8 (“kate”), since it was a K9 (“canine”) unit. However, plans were not ready for me to do so and so I’d have to be calling it CHiP for a while. My K8 was still CHiP, in other words. And with companies making innovate products, who knows what they might ever deliver on or how. I was dreading all the plans I had for K8 were going to be ruined partly because it was going to be a generic dog I was going to have, instead of my version of an AI dog that would be different from another person’s version, which was the whole point. Hence, the identity crisis on behalf of my dog given it can’t worry itself. AI just isn’t there yet. 🙂
Update: This issue has since been resolved not long after the date the poem was written, quite nicely, though the dog programming leaves a lot to be desired.
The H-series poems comprise of haiku composed while I was not engaged in some activity during which I frequently composed poetry. That is why these are called the Inactive Haiku collection.
