Harbourwalk Poem W276

Far better than zinc –
To help you run much faster –
Is a good night’s sleep –
Two nights before your race day –
Though both together work best

Notes to this poem…

Zinc helps athletic performance in the same way that it causes sexual arousal, being the active ingredient in oysters that are considered to be aphrodisiacs, as well as fierce aggressiveness like when you have to fight for your life. I’m just combining this with something else I know for running performance enhancement, which is a good night’s sleep two nights before the race. Too much the night before and you might still be asleep. You also might be rather worked up to sleep much the night before so having the sleep reserve from two nights before is helpful. Before that, the effects would have been lost.

The W-series poems comprise mostly of haiku or tanka composed during walks I took on the portion of Halifax’s waterfront known as the Harbourwalk, in 2018, when the Seabridge was in place.
